Out with June, In with July

Well, the last few days has been eventful (a little). Let's see here, what has happened in the last few days. Let's start with tonight. Tonight is my sister's birthday and I caught up with her at a local lounge club to have a drink and play some pool. Even thought I don't really know how to play pool, nor am i good at it, I played three games against her, sent the cue ball flying off the table twice and decided that pool wasn't my game like poker is. I like poker, it's not as violent as pool is (the cue ball went off the table and hit my sister's foot). But we had a good time and I don't think I'll be investing any money into a new pool stick anytime soon, even though I did blame my pool playing performance on the stick I was using! :)
Poker is awesome and I'm loving the poker league I'm in. The time and the day of the league is convenient to my schedule and I really get excited when I go. Then when I'm at the table, it's so peaceful and I play and socialize. :)
And last week, I stopped by the golf driving range which was which was great! I was hitting balls with my "security blanket" 8 iron so smooth and straight. I'm going out to hit golf balls again tomorrow night for an hour to get just some general practice in. When I see my golf coach again, we will be brushing up on hitting with the Driver. Not to sure of that club, but will force myself to get use to it. Next season (2014) I will be teaming up with a golf league to explore other courses and make new golfing friends. Can't wait!
The hand gun training I've been taking is really moving right along impressively. I really got down all the different types of guns and ammo, stance, holding form, and where on my body I could carry a concealed gun. Very informative. Next Sunday I got shooting with four or five different types of guns to weed out my favorite one to concentrate on. Maybe a 9mm, maybe a .22, we will have to wait and see. :)
This past weekend I got together with three other girl friends and we headed out on the town Saturday night to live it up. We ate dinner at a local Chinese restaurant and then by 9pm and two drinks later, we headed over to a local LGBT lounge bar which had a very entertaining Drag Queen show happening. None of us swing that way, but it was quite entertaining to watch the dancers entertain us to their favorite music. I would definitely go back again. They are very talented and I would love to get make up tips from them, cause I sure need it :)
My studying for my PT certificate is suffering a little bit with my social life being high on the hog. But, I'll have to manage to get that re-focused again and get back on the wagon. As for fitness, there are so many options and directions for me to go. My choices are to go with an expensive gym and have alot of perks under their roof including insurance to visit their doctor on staff, full gym, spa area, restaurant, social clubs, TRX, golf swing simulator, yoga, and P90X. Yes, they all sound impressive but the membership rate is a staggering $171 a month (including the insurance to see a doctor if you get hurt), so I guess it would be good for people who don't have insurance.
Another avenue I'm looking at is signing up for a 3 times a week boxing gym, I like this because it's $99 for 9 weeks. I think boxing is great to get in shape and teaches you self defense. That's pretty much what I'm looking for. Their schedule is awesome too, I can make every class. But, that's only great for cardio and core work, I'm got to bring in some heavy artillery and incorporate CrossFit into my fitness routine. Why? Cause CrossFit is the gem of all fitness factors including losing weight, gaining muscle, flexibility, and balance, and again, it doesn't come at a cheap price. CrossFit is about $135 a month for unlimited. Due to my schedule, I would probably go with the $125 for a 10 punch pass. Sometimes I can go once a week, sometimes twice a week depending on what they are offering for a workout schedule.
One last thing, I did renew my swimming membership at the local hotel, I'm hoping to go swimming once a week for cardio and relaxing. So that membership is paid in advanced and good for a year! :)
So that's what I've been up to lately. I'll turn in again soon to update you on what's next and what's new! :)

First Day Of Fire Arm Training

Today was another milestone in my life......since I'm trying new experiences and learning new things, I went to my first SAS (Second Amendment Sisters) chapter meeting today. The meetings here are the second Sunday of the month. It started off with an hour meeting on fire arm safety, going over the three most important steps in using a fire arm safely:
  1. Always point the fire arm muzzle away from what you don't want to shoot (or, as they put it in my class today: destroy). You can to keep the muzzle pointing towards down range. And I'll add to this that you always want to LOOK what you are pointing the muzzle at and BEYOND! Bullets can travel up to a mile and a half. Know your target, know what's beyond it.
  2. Keep your finger off the trigger until you want to initiate a shot. Keep your finger on the "frame" of the gun, don't put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire off a shot. The "frame" of the gun is above the trigger area on the side of the fire arm (in other words, keep the finger pointed straight along the side of the muzzle).
  3. Do not load your fire arm until you are ready to use it. Keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to fire shots from it. Simply said. When you are taking a break at a firing range, unload the gun and place it with the muzzle still pointing down range, and step back.
Also in class we went over some standing positions to be in when firing your gun. I'm not going to get into detail about the difference stances we went over as the article here on American Rifleman gives a great detailed explanation of each stance. I preferred the "Isometric" stance for my first time shooting and I will play with other stances as I progress thru my practices along the way.

The only thing I would recommend in doing (which I will do before my next shooting practice) is invest in a good pair of Earmuffs. Even a .22 gun goes off a little on the loud side if you aren't use to it. So I looked on Amazon and the one that I will end up buying is this one from Howard Leight. A pair of protective glasses is on my list too, but obviously won't be as challenging to hunt down as I can just stop by the local hardware store for that. Which I just want to add in here a table of decibel ratings for you to compare the level of decibels different fire arms have compared to normal hearing levels.

What I'm Up To And My Professional Rock Climber

Hello! I missed a blog posting yesterday.........I did that just to make sure you were paying attention.....heehee!! Yesterday was a nice day as I spend lunch with my Sister and my Mom and I got my birthday presents from my sister. My sister got me a pocket size Snoopy & Woodstock themed notepad (always writing my thoughts down) and she got me a RV travel related book. I'm currently working my way thru the book. I'll give my complete thoughts on the book when I finish it, but so far I got thru Chapter 1, Chapter 2 will be tonight's reading. And no, at this time, I'm not listing the name of the book......
We have a diner up here called the Red Arrow. Okay, maybe it's not in the best part of town, but with so many people coming in and out and walking around outside, I feel comfortable going there at a decent hour of the day (I might skip it at 1am). The restaurant is always hopping with people coming out from local night clubs and events (concerts, theater plays, baseball games) .....I dug up some pictures I took a while ago of the menu and soup bowl.......I sometimes forget to bring my new camera with me thinking I'll never need it.....I'm always wrong........

I almost forgot the point I was trying to make with the Red Arrow......my point is that I went there for dinner on Saturday night with friends........ :)

So, moving on to today......today, I brought Jake to the park this morning. I didn't have much planned for today at all and Jake and I were pacing the kitchen so we hit the road and went to a local (hmmmm, about 4 miles from my house) park. OF COURSE, dummy me, I forgot my camera again, but I did get two snap shots off the Blackberry......here's my Professional Rock Climber.....

"I'm a professional, don't try this on your own......."

Here's the pool at that same park that we walk around, pool don't till 11am
So, after that we didn't do too much......

I'm a little disturbed by the national news having so many shootings. Just last week I've heard of
  • an air conditioner that was in an apartment window leaked on a woman's head and the brother of the woman went up to the apartment that the air conditioner belonged to and shot the resident who lived there 8 times (in Chicago).
  • a guy walks into a roller skating rink (in Texas) and shoots his wife and family, injuring 7 people during his kid's birthday party.
  • a car show yesterday just south of Seattle leaves 11 people injured with gun shots (one person with multiple gun shot wounds) when one car owner bad mouthed another car owner's paint job.
  • AND locally, hitting home where I live, a guy is killed outside a gas station after a verbal confrontation with another guy in a car.
Should I not leave my house anymore? I guess we all take chances when leaving the comfort of our home. I'm not going to say no one should own a gun, but it's some of the people in possession of these guns that really worry me. Someone having a bad day, getting a divorce, lost their job, wants to "one up" the other person, YOU insulted my paint job!!.......sigh, I'm just going to look for an island for sale that has wireless internet access......this is just unbelievable. Okay, I hope everyone had a nice weekend, I'm signing off. Have a good night, bug you all tomorrow......and I promise to bring my camera wherever I go tomorrow :)
