Walktober Fest!

Hello! :) Today was a rainy day, so we waited and waited for the rain to let up a tad to head over to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua Walktober Fest that was being held at the Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser) plant in Merrimack, New Hampshire! I had to carry Jake the whole time we were there because it was very muddy since most of the vendors were set up in the field off the walkway. That was okay with me as long as Jake's paws didn't get dirty and at 8 pounds he was easy to tote around in my arm. I'm thinking of getting one of those pet tote bags to carry him in, but I'm thinking the training for him to stay in that thing would cost me about a bottle and a half worth of aspirins. Anyways, we seemed to of missed some of the events today including the benefit walk and some of the competitive shows such as the Disc Dogs (no, not a musical group, lol, dogs chasing a flying disc and jumping up and catching it in the air). There were alot of vendors there and we picked up a couple of freebies alot of way, like a chip bag clip, canned food covers, and some insurance company was passing out pedometers (I can use that when I go walking with my walking group). Zoey's Mom and Dad went earlier in the day and texted me to say they were leaving since they all were soak and wet from the rain. We will have to catch up with them again soon :) I got pictures today......yeah, of course I did.....

We are here.....let's look around....

Thankfully I had an umbrella stashed in the car, alot to see here....

Hmmmm, Jake's been to a pet psychic before, was told he
was afraid of rocks and stairs (funny how he loves the
beach and we live on the 3rd floor with no elevator), we
passed on getting a second opinion....

Lots of dog playing....

Ohhhhh, raffles, this table is for meeeee :)

A pet bed, p'jammies, and canine herbal remedies...interesting

Hello little one, let's get a closer look at ya....

Hello :)

This little one in the rain jacket is cute,
I'll get a better shot....

Hello....hmmmm, might get Jake a rain coat like that....

I don't really like how these two were looking at Jake,
I'm wondering if they had lunch today....

So as you can see it was a nice turn out.....
That's my exciting day today. Not sure what we are doing tomorrow, check on me :) Have a good night.....

A Car Show And SOME People!!

I did have a good day today. I didn't do much today, but I got pictures of the little car show I went to this morning with Jake. I'm going to show you pictures of the car show here and then after the pictures, I'm shifting gears, and I'm going to vent.....you won't see me "vent" too many times so excuse me :) Let's see some cool car pictures today that I took at a local car show today......

Break Time! :)

Jake needed a break after the car show :) It was a good time. Now, I want to talk about Jake.....yep, here we go.....you are going to get know Jake a little more now and you are going to get to know why some people just (unintentionally) annoy me to no end.....

Yesterday, I went out for a drive with Jake to go to a park. Well, when I almost got to the park, I had realized that I had forgotten his leash. Well, leashes are pretty cheap so instead of wasting my gas to go home, I decided to stop at a local pet store to buy a leash to leave in my car. You would think that I would of put a leash in the car permanently sometime during the last nine years I've had this dog. HA!

Okay, anyways, I brought Jake into the pet store with me, picked out a leash, and while fumbling with my cash at the cash register, I set Jake down on the cashier counter (Jake just sat down, he was fine, and if you know me, I always have one eye on him). As I was getting my cash out, the cashier fed Jake a treat. It was too late for me to say anything since Jake snapped it up and ate it (naturally). I'll keep it simple: I don't like when this happens.

I have been to many, many places (in many states) with Jake (stores, banks, etc) and many people have asked me "Can your dog have a treat?" as they fish a treat out for him. I always say "No, he can't, but thank you." Not to be mean or deprive my dog of the fun of running errands, but Jake has a disease called "Intestinal Lymphangiectasia" (yes, that's is spelled correctly LOL!). This is not a new disease to him, he's had it all his life. It IS getting worse and is more sensitive the older he gets, but his life won't be shorted due to this disease. A (very) strict diet will give him a long, happy life.

You see, most treats and dog food has protein as an ingredient, and with Jake's disease, any accumulated protein intake will not be digested at all, the protein will turn to a fluid solution, and swell up his tummy. To fix this condition when it happens, it takes laying Jake on his side and a syringe inserted directly into his belly to drain the built up fluid (as for me, I get lightheaded from seeing the syringe and the vet bill). Since I have discovered this disease a few years ago, Science Diet has tremendously helped with their protein-less "ZD" dog food formula. Not that it matters to me, but just to let you know, this food isn't expensive at all. I would say that 80 dollars in food will last him two months. Now, I know this was a little treat and the cashier was just "being nice", but too many people just come up to Jake and feed him something! I wish I could hang a little sign off him saying "Do Not Feed". Okay, that's my vent of the day. Have a nice night! :)
